Prachi Desai is one of the actresses who started off from television and transitioned into Bollywood. Though she has been a part of some of the most memorable movies, she is widely known for her work in television. Acting in Kasamh Se garnered her widespread recognition along with praise and appreciation.
Prachi Desai joined us for an exclusive conversation with Bollywood Bubble where she opened up about the time when people used to call television content ‘regressive’. In our interview, the actress shared her thoughts when she listened to those comments.
Prachi Desai on ‘TV going down a regressive route’
Prachi Desai shared her experience of doing shows on Television and how it has affected many women’s outlooks in life. The actress says, “Growing up I watched some beautiful shows on television. They really kind of shaped a lot of women’s outlook towards life. Our mums have been watching beautiful shows and it’s amazing. So I think that reducing it down to something may not be right. But it feels rather unfortunate that television went down a route where there was content that was or which still is very regressive that doesn’t serve a purpose in today’s time. I don’t think it kind of helps elevate anyone’s life in a sense. Entertainment, I guess a lot of people choose that is entertaining to them. So that is different. But I think the kind of life value, life lessons that we got, that I miss in TV content for sure.
She added, “For the show that I was a part of, I feel incredibly fortunate. It was a time when all of us are still remembered for it. I think that happened for a couple of years when people who were on shows at the time, they are all still remembered, that’s priceless. And I think my show was different also, it was a younger girl, an older man love story. We did not have kitchen politics going on the show. Of course we had an amazing antagonist Ashwini Kalsekar who was doing everything she could to make everything wrong. But it had to be a story about a family, a little world of theirs. And I still feel we were a little different for sure.”
Further up in the conversation, Prachi Desai also opened up about working with actors like Farhan Akhtar, Abhishek Bachchan, Emraan Hashmi, Ajay Devgn and feeling intimidated in front of Manoj Bajpayee.
